Do you suspect that you have Anxiety after Antibiotics?
Think back. Can you point to when your Anxiety (or Depression) actually started? Was it in childhood, puberty or adulthood?
There are lots of triggers for Anxiety –
- Toxic overload
- Grief & Trauma
This blog is specifically about Anxiety after Antibiotics as I have a great case I want to share. But, whatever the trigger for your Anxiety, I’ve probably dealt with it within my practice. Even if there’s no known trigger.
Anxiety after Antibiotics – Case Study
This is the case of a young woman in her 30’s (let’s call her Andrea). Andrea had never suffered with anxiety, depression or panic attacks. But she had always had stomach and digestive issues.
Andrea got a virus and felt really awful. She went to her local doctor who prescribed antibiotics. The virus cleared and within 2 weeks, Andrea had her first Panic Attack.
“I didn’t even know what it was – I thought I was going to fall over. My heart was beating so fast that I felt like I’d pins and needles in my blood! It came out of nowhere.”
Andrea put it down to the virus and thought her body was still trying to get rid of it. But then they started to happen more regularly.
On top of that, she was waking up with horrendous Anxiety – mostly in her chest
“I can feel my heart thumping, not racing, just thumping away. It feels really weird. My stomach is sick and I can’t eat until half way through the day. I feel so jittery. I’m all over the place. And its getting worse each week”.
Andrea was getting to a stage where she was afraid to go anywhere, in case she got overwhelmed by the anxiety or had a panic attack. She was fearful that she would end up being agoraphobic.
When we went back through the timeline in her case we saw that the first Panic Attack happened within 2 weeks of the antibiotics. And progressed from there. Andrea has a sensitive gut anyway, so the antibiotics disturbed it even more. (Google for more info on the Brain-Gut connection).
From my perspective, it makes a case easy to treat when there is a known trigger or cause.
Homeopathic Detox Therapy
So I used HDT (which is Homeopathic Detox Therapy) to treat her symptoms – anxiety after antibiotics. This involves:
- giving a Homeopathic Remedy made from the original Antibiotic. This is given in ascending strengths over the course of a month,
- giving remedies called Bowel Nosodes to stimulate the gut to re-balance and start working ‘normally’,
- giving an overall remedy which matched her individually as a person. In Andrea’s case, this remedy took into account her ongoing stomach and gut issues,
- a really good Probiotic.
Andrea did really well. The panic attacks stopped immediately and the Anxiety began to lessen over the weeks. For 2 days each week, after taking the remedy made from the antibiotic, her anxiety would return – but not as bad as it was originally. This is known as a ‘healing crisis’, ie. the body letting go or clearing out the symptoms. Then she would feel better for the rest of the week. At the end of the month, her anxiety was hugely improved. After another month, with no remedies, she came back to her old self.
Why didn’t I give any remedies during the second month?
She didn’t need them. We were able to assess that the first month’s course of remedies had done enough to stimulate the healing process. This continued on through the second month.
“I didn’t think I’d ever get back to normal. But I did. There are times now when I look around and think how lucky I am. Its the simple things – being able to go to the shop, buy myself something nice, without constantly feeling anxious or panicky.”
Andrea is now concentrating on treating her stomach, gut and some other minor issues.
