There can be lots of triggers for depression and anxiety in children and it is always interesting to find out if there was an actual trigger or did it just come on slowly and for no apparent reason.

Some kids go through emotional stresses such as parents divorce, bullying or isolation in school, sexual or physical abuse, peer pressure, illness, death of a loved one, physical health, hormonal changes, hereditary influences, and sometimes it just happens.

Some of the typical signs are sadness and depression, sleep problems, anger, rage, mood swings, weeping, withdrawing from family and friends, low energy and motivation, school issues such as refusing or begging not to go, change in their grades.

Signs of anxiousness include excessive worrying, dwelling on things, irrational thoughts and worries, restlessness, sleep disturbances, loss of appetite, striving for perfection, self-criticism, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder), ritualistic behaviour ….

There are lots of remedies which can be used for helping depression and anxiety in children. These remedies are completely safe to use in children, non-toxic, non-addictive yet effective.

Every case is different so I use different remedies for each child. There is no ‘one size fits all’ treatment. A specific protocol is devised for each case depending on the child’s particular issues. Depending on the protocol best suited to your child, I will use one or more from the following:-

  • Homeopathic Remedies – there are hundreds of homeopathic remedies and each remedy has a unique ‘look and feel’ to it. Finding the best remedy for your child involves matching the individual case characteristics to a particular remedy. This can be quite a hard task but I use my own protocol for this which focuses on depression and anxiety in children. Some cases require a combination of remedies or a sequential list of remedies – it is a very individualised treatment plan.
  • Therapeutics – these are remedies which are specific to a particular part of your case. For example, some postnatal women have sleeping problems, or insomnia, even though they feel exhausted. A therapeutic remedy would be given specifically for this problem, which I find works really effectively while allowing the other remedies to work. Another example would be period irregularities and again a specific therapeutic can be given for this. There is so much potential.
  • Tissue Salts (Cell Salts) – also know as Biochemic Salts. These are micro-doses of the essential minerals our bodies need to repair and maintain itself. There are 12 tissue salts which can be used in specific combinations to optimise health. They are very similar to the therapeutic remedies as they can be used to zone in on a particular problem. For example, the tissue salt Kali-phos can be used to help depression and nervous tension.
  • Other – there are some other remedies that can be used in conjunction with the above such as nosodes, bowel nosodes, miasmatic nosodes which should only be prescribed by a qualified practitioner.
