Do you want help with the Horrors of Hormones?
Do you have Monthly Mood Swings?
I’m guessing Yes if you’re reading this!
Well, help is definitely something I can give you and your hormones. Read on ….
If it is you that is “controlled” by your hormones or your daughter (or the woman in your life), resulting in horrendous hormonal mood swings, let me go through here what I know to be true. I hate using the word “controlled” but sometimes it really is that compelling. It takes over and, well, there’s just no stopping it.
Why do we suffer with such fluctuating mood swings?
Our monthly cycle! In a nutshell!
The ups and downs of hormones.
But … before we go any further, can we all just agree that there is no such thing as “normal”!
A Case recently was “Clare”, a woman with a history of endometriosis and PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), and irregular periods which were all over the place. Very heavy bleeding every month with lots of big clots. No regular pattern and some flooding during the month (mid-month bleeding).
The few days before her period, “Clare” couldn’t think straight. Brain was like mush and her skin would break out in big acne-like spots. She described herself as a very ‘hormonal‘ person and suffered with awful PMS.
This case is not unusual. I hear similar stories all the time. Finding the best remedies and treatment plan is about focusing on hormonal remedies alongside remedies to deal with specifics (such as her skin). I find this is the best course of treatment.
After two months, ‘Clare’ said her periods were better. There had been no flooding and the clots had significantly reduced. The PMS had improved, verified by positive comments from her family. Her skin was a lot better.
She was moved on to the next level of treatment and has continued improving as treatment progresses.
That’s just one of the many hormonal cases I’ve seen.
Before Our Period
So just before our periods, things tend to go a little hectic.
Progesterone peaks after ovulation as the body is expecting a pregnancy and, when this doesn’t happen, the progesterone starts to decline as we get closer to our period, and some of those ‘typical’ symptoms, which I can really help with, start:
- PMS (premenstrual syndrome) or PMT (premenstrual tension), mood swings, anger, irritability, emotional, crying, fed-up, down in the dumps
- Extra sensitive
- Absolute exhaustion
- Hard to concentrate
- Craving chocolate, craving carbs, craving sugar
- Bloated, constipation, diarrhoea, cramping
- Weight gain
- Migraines, headaches
- Breast tenderness
- Acne or spots
- Other physical complaints can become worse at this time (eg. asthma)
Phew, I’m exhausted even thinking about it!
can I Help?
Absolutely. There are lots of remedies which can help all of the above.

During Our Period
Then our periods start – some of us feel better; others of us don’t.
A peculiar thing that some women feel is that they are better as soon as their flow starts – like a pressure cooker has been released. But, more often than not, it takes more than a couple of days for the mood to lift, the bloating to subside, our energy to rise, the cravings to ease, and our bodies to work more “normally”.
Lots of women experience the ‘typical’ period problems:
- Pain and Cramping
- Heavy Bleeding
But, near the end of a period, around Day 4 or 5 – we get that “gosh, I’m feeling kinda normal again” feeling. This continues for a week or more, usually until ovulation – everything’s great, exercising, eating right, feel good, sleeping well. Oh yes I could stay in this phase forever. Hormones are starting to rise here.
Ovulation – mid-month. Woohoo!! Feel fantabulous! Everything runs smoothly. Sex drive goes up. The juices start to flow. Time for some baby-making … Happy days!
(Warning! Pregnancy can result during this wonderful time)!
Unfortunately only lasts a few days. Why is this? Because Oestrogen is at its peak during this time.
And then …… oh dear, things are starting to slide a little. And then slide a little more.
And it starts all over again. But don’t worry, it only lasts for about 50 or so years !!
So in the space of one month, we can go from being raving lunatics (luna – love the moon connection!) to being totally on top of our game. What. The. Hell????
To sum up – whether you have low oestrogen/progesterone, or oestrogen dominance, or another ‘label’ you’ve been given, your body is basically out of sync or, another way of putting it, is ‘out of balance’.
To get back into balance, homeopathic remedies offer a really viable solution.
What if I’m on the Pill?
That’s absolutely fine. Maybe you went on the Pill because you were suffering with some of the stuff talked about here. Maybe it is for contraceptive reasons. Either way, that is ok.
